Why donate to CIS? Because what we do IS really making a difference!

More than 1.2 million students and their families were directly connected to resources through CIS during the 2005-2006 school year. More than 3,400 school and education sites were served by CIS. Nearly 49,000 volunteers donated 2.8 million hours to CIS last year, at a value of nearly $53 million.

As a result:
-96 percent of local CIS affiliates provide mentoring and tutoring services.
-94 percent provide after-school/before-school programs.
-The average annual cost per student is $182.

Among CIS-tracked students:
-80 percent improved attendance.
-88 percent had fewer incidents of discipline.
-89 percent improved academic performance.
-83 percent were promoted to the next grade.
-81 percent of eligible seniors graduated.
-3.5 percent dropped out, lower than the national average of 4.8 percent and lower than the estimated 6 to 10 percent dropout rate for student populations similar to those served by CIS.

Each CIS affiliate raises funds in slightly different ways, but all of the programs rely heavily on foundations, businesses, and other community resources. Schools often provide a large portion of the funding as well. So, when school budgets get cut and there are not enough matching funds, CIS often has to leave a school site. This means that students lose out! Don’t let this happen!
